Another great and insightful sharing! The trap is what we don't allow our true self to feel - good or bad, positive and negative, happy and sad, as part of all living nature, without feeling sad we won't know what is the feeling of happiness. Thank you Jamie for your truthful sharing, this mental trap has been created by many new age books of asking people to feel life only in a positive way and ignore the negative feelings, which is against the nature.

Dear Jamie,
Thank you so much for such insightful sharing, I'm so relieved that finally someone like you has spilled out the truth about Facebook-addiction-syndrome which you summed up perfectly as EGO. How many of us really using Facebook for connecting with friends, the truth is we are using it to feed our empty shelled EGO we don't really care much about what's happening in our friends' life, but all we want is ME-Moment, we're doing it so often that it has become our daily routine yet we don't realize it. Thank you so much for reminding us how to USE facebook rather than being used! :)

Hi Rachel,

I stopped everything except I used my emails. During the down time I just wanted to really be with myself and observe things on a deeper level. I also felt to stop writing so there was no blogging. By holding on to some of the experience I had and going deeper with what was coming up rather than expressing it, I really came across some interesting things for myself.

Although you may feel to unplug be aware that your ego will find sneaky ways to avoid you following that feeling, I think you caught one of those ways out... ;-)

Hello Jamie!!

I was wondering what you stopped using for the 6 weeks? Was it just facebook, instagram, twitter etc- or did you stop 'unplug' from your blog, emails, etc as well?

Sometimes I think to go periods without social media - and I think I could detach from instagram easily. However, I like facebook because it reminds me when people's birthdays are and it's a a very easy medium to get in contact with people.

After writing that last paragraph, I realise I could make a birthday calendar and could write down the contacts / information of those I felt I wanted to get in touch with. However, i'm still interested in your thoughts!

Thank you for sharing =)

Hi Brenda,

Great point of discussion, sometimes we forget who is watching us... I think showing children that they can trust playing in the moment without having to have distraction, such as social media, is so important because then they will express more of themselves rather than being consumed by whats going on around them.

Good luck with your day free of social media, great start! ;-)

YAY love it....it's building healthy boundaries. I didn't check into fb at all yesterday apart from prior to reading your post :o) and i was amazed how i didn't miss it. Occasionally my mind would say hey lets check in but then i stopped myself. I found much more time to just sit with me...much more important. I'm going to do this for a week then set FB boundaries like you have.

Love your work

Fantastic post Jamie.

It concerns me that my children watch mum and dad on social media.... alot. They seem to be becoming desensitised unfortunately, like it's just the norm & have learnt that now they have to wait for our attention. I have made it a rule that at the very least, when they are around we switch off. Not always easy when both parents use social media mainly for work and both work from home!

Your 6 weeks off sounds heavenly. I might start with 1 day : )
